Buying a Printer

People working with a computer on a daily basis need to have a good printer. You never know when you will need to print a document or photo, so it’s vital to buy a durable printer. You can get the most expensive brand or just the cheaper printer that suits your needs and budget.

Picking the best printer is surely difficult what with the numerous models available today on the market. But if you know what you want and for what purpose you’re going to use the printer, then perhaps you will have less difficulty choosing the right one for you.

There are several kinds of printers to choose from. Get to know them so you can determine which one fits your needs.

Inkjet printers are great for printing colour photos and graphics mostly for home use only. What this printer usually does it to spray drops of ink onto the paper to produce quality colour or black and white images. However, inkjet printers are not ideal for printing text or sharp lines. They are slow in printing and are not meant for office use, although they are actually more affordable.

Ink is a major consideration for this printer as most inkjets have only three colors – cyan, magenta and yellow (CMY) – which can take up so much ink. But if this is the model you want, get the one with two ink cartridges – one for the three colors and a separate one for the black ink.

When buying this type of printer, try to ask for a sample printout. A good printout should have a good colour tone with no smudge. Also, don’t forget to check and compare prices of replacement ink cartridges and the number of pages they can print.

Another type of printer is the colour laser and LCD/LED great for use in both home and small businesses. Laser printers are best for printing text and also for printing quality color photos and graphics. They have faster printing speeds compared to inkjet printers and their toner cartridges are cheaper and last longer than ink. The major factor to consider here is its price, the high-end ones of which can cost up to $3,000. However, there are other brands, which you can get at a lower price.

When choosing the colour laser printer, consider several factors like the print speed and quality. If you’re in the printing business, investing in this type of printer can go a long way. For quality print, be sure to ask for sample prints from the printer.

For office use, the colour laser printer’s tray capacity is important. In large offices, which use just one printer, it’s crucial that the color laser printer can hold a lot of paper.

A third type of printer is the dye sublimation type best for printing 4x6 photos only and not text documents. The multifunction device printer is another type great for use in small and medium-sized businesses. Aside from printing, it has other features like a copier, scanner and fax machine.
