Buying the Right Cosmetics

Wearing makeup or cosmetics can boost a woman’s confidence and beauty. Being vain by nature, most women also admit they just can’t leave the house without applying makeup. Beauty experts say buying makeup is more than just choosing the products you like. It’s about picking the correct cosmetics that suit your skin and enhance your beauty.

The basics are a must when buying make up and cosmetics. So what are the must-have cosmetics for women? The answer goes back to the basics. They are the lipstick, lip balm, pressed powder, powder or cream blush, mascara, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil and eyeshadow.

Lipsticks should be sheer or glossy. Pick those that can last throughout the day and that have natural moisturiser. If not, always have a lip balm to prevent your lips from cracking. Some lipsticks also have vitamin E, which is an added benefit. Before buying one, always ask for a tester and test it on the skin of your hand to see the effect.

A translucent pressed powder is very helpful in absorbing the shine on the T-zone of your face including the chin and laugh lines especially for women with oily skin. A hypoallergenic powder or one that won’t cause allergy is best. Choose also one that is one level lighter than your natural skin tone.

Blush for the cheeks, whether cream or powder, add more radiance to your face. A cream blush is good in touching up colour on the skin without the cakey effect.

To highlight the eyes, eyeliner will do but an eyeshadow can do more to make the eyes appear awake. Mascara, meanwhile, makes your eyelashes look thicker and thereby enhances your eyes.

After considering the basics, the next thing to do is to get a sunblock. This should also be a must because exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays is a big factor in causing premature aging, fine lines and wrinkles. Some foundations already have SPF in their ingredients, but you can always buy a separate sunblock for your face if you wish.

Don’t forget the moisturiser too, which is vital for dry skin. Moisturiser now comes with antioxidants and SPF to keep moisture in and maintain skin cells.

Apart from getting information from beauty websites or magazines, ask the sales ladies at the cosmetics department for some techniques. They are usually trained on how to apply makeup the right way, so you can maybe request for an instant makeover.

If samples are available for free, get one for yourself and try it out especially the foundations, lipsticks and concealers. It’s also best to ask for the sample sizes before deciding to buy the actual one you like.

For women with sensitive skin especially those prone to acne, consult your dermatologist first for proper recommendation of makeup products that fit your skin type. Your dermatologist might even consider supplying you with cosmetics that will improve your skin. If not, go for cosmetics that are non-comedogenic or those that won’t clog your pores.
